04-13-2020 Update: Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, CIFF44 has been reinvented. It will now go live as a virtual film festival on April 15, 2020. Learn more here.

We are pleased to announce that “Toxic: A Black Woman’s Story” will be a part of the Oscar Qualifying 44th Cleveland International Film Festival, which will take place from March 25 – April 5, 2020, at Tower City Center in Downtown Cleveland.

“Toxic” will be showing at Tower City Cinemas on the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 9:45 PM (as part of the Local Heroes Shorts Program)

  • Friday, March 27, 2020 at 4:00 PM (as part of the Focus 2020: Racial Equity Shorts Program)

As “Toxic” is just now hitting the film festival circuit, it’s only fitting that it will be shared with a local audience on an international stage. “Toxic” was shot in Northeast Ohio. It was produced and directed by Northeast Ohio filmmakers. And it boasts a cast and crew made up entirely of Northeast Ohio talent. Needless to say, the Cleveland International Film Festival is the perfect launching pad for this film to debut on the film festival circuit.

This represents an incredible achievement that would not have been possible without funding support by First Year Cleveland’s Pregnancy and Infant Loss (PAIL) Committee, as well as creative oversight by both PAIL and Healthy Cleveland’s Healthy Neighborhoods Committee.

“Toxic” continues to garner significant buzz both locally and nationally, as there is a real hunger to leverage the film for its original intention - namely, to illuminate the intersection of racism, toxic stress, infant loss, and health inequities.
